That one album

I feel like everybody has that one album in their life that they'll never forget or that just changed the way they listened to music.

Well this was that album for me.

Recently, a college friend was going through my iTunes library, and the first thing they said was, "ARE YOU EMO???" Haha. Pre-Lubbock, I was very into those alternative/acoustic/partially-emo bands like Blink182, Something Corporate, Copeland, Senses Fail, New Found Glory, Brand New, Mayday Parade, Postal Service, Say Anything, eeetttttcccc.... Post-Lubbock, my taste in music shifted into good ol' Country music. Eli Young Band, Jason Aldean, Brad Paisley, The Band Perry, Brantley Gilbert, AND OF COURSE JOSH ABBOTT. Where would we all be without Tech Grad Josh Abbott??? I, for one, do not know. Lubbock brainwashed my ass into liking cowboys and country music

(marry me, luke bryan)

Back to subject, when I was in my heyday in high school/middle school, it really was the cool thing to listen to those moody jams by our dearly beloved emo bands. and who doesn't want to be cool, right????!? , So when someone introduced me to "Cute without the E" by TBS circa 7th grade, I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread.

Then their new album "Where you want to be" came out, and this was before apple ruled my life, so I actually drove (well my dad drove me) to a local Hastings and physically bought the album.

I literally listened to it every single day, on my large ass silver & blue boombox. Before school, after school, I dedicated many hours stored away in my room dissecting the lyrics and soaking up the guitar riffs. #fellinlovewithmusic

I was even that girl that wrote my favorite lyrics down on school notes or random spirals. I've always been a doodler.

Even now, whenever that album comes on shuffle, it's like a surreal experience, and I'm immediately an 8th grader again. What I love about TBS is they can say the same meaningful lyric over 9872 times, and just literally SING THE HELL OUT OF IT with such raw emotion it kills me.

For example, "Head club":
Well it's getting colder and you're getting distant
and I just keep thinkin
that I never meant it to be like this(to be like this)
You know what comes next(so do I)
You’re begging for a way to gracefully bow out
and say goodnight

It's worse than you think
On your way home you should have known
you never listen to me
I’m only complaining to keep myself busy, sweetie
I’m only complaining to keep myself busy, sweetie

I can’t say I blame you
but I wish that I could
I’m sick of writing every song about you

Don't call my name out your window, I'm leaving
(I'm sick of writing every song about you)
Don't call my name out your window, I'm leaving
(I'm sick of writing every song about you)
Don't call my name out your window, I'm leaving
(I'm sick of writing every song about you)
Don't call my name out your window, I'm leaving
(I'm sick of writing every song about you)
Don't call my name out your window, I'm leaving
(I'm sick of writing every song about you)
Don't call my name out your window, I'm leaving
(I'm sick of writing every song about you)
Don't call my name out your window, I'm leaving
(I'm sick of writing every song about you)
Don't call my name out your window, I'm leaving
(I'm sick of writing every song about you)
Don't call my name out your window, I'm leaving
(I'm sick of writing every song about you)
Don't call my name out your window, I'm leaving
Don't call my name out your window, I'm leaving

This one is from the "Tell all your friends" album. That last line was one of my favorite things to doodle, as a little tot.

"Slowdance on the inside" was my favorite emo jam of all time. The music in it is incredible. And of course they always have great lyrics, that can do better than just rhyme "girl" with "world" every other verse. Really though, how many times have you heard the girl/world combo in a song????? drives me nuts.

This was one of my favorite part of the song:
This glass house is burning down (open all night, know it...)
You light the match, I'll stick around (open all night, know it...)
I'll give you everything you want (open all night, know it...)
And wish the worst of what I was (open all night, know it...)

And then their signature repeating lyric ender:
Tonight won't make a difference
Tonight won't make a difference
Tonight won't make a difference
Well tonight won't make a difference
Well tonight won't make a difference
Tonight won't make a difference
Tonight won't make a difference
Well tonight won't make a difference

So call it what you will, I'm emo I guess. I just am so passionate about this album. It was the game changer for me in music. They've come out with some albums since then, but none of them has been as good as this one. I especially hated their album, "Louder Now" ugh.

Well feel free to leave me comments telling me what thaaaat album was for you.
